Well written John! Yup spam harvesters use netnews as a address
source incessantly.

Rather than a yahoo junk account, I employ this twist.

Posting is via an ancient reader called tin on linux/unix. Threaded
Internet News. Release called "one more nightmare."

I do searches on google which is the best netnews/usenix ferret bar
none, That's where you are when u click google's groups (news groups)
tab.

For posting I run giganews for $10/month. It allows tin posts with
munged e-mail sender addresses of the type.

    [email protected]

My footer advises reader to blitz the 3 characters preceding the dot
for direct correspondence.

Have to use this abstraction since google won't let u post w. munged
addresses. Seems more troublesome than your approach but bypasses
sifting all the spam in the 'throwaway' address while looking for the
pony in there as the old joke went.

To me, the google/giganews-tin boolah boolah has been hugely valuable.
& greatly exceeds the annoyance of these little bumps
