Welcome to the club, John...

These transformers and inductors potted in the case are very fragile and
most of them you'll find blown one way or another in those AC PSU's.
I have one supply (in beautiful cosmetic shape) DOA with a short in the LV
winding. I initially suspected the selenium stack but it's OK.
My other AC supply looks rough outside, but it works. I run it from a
Variac, supplying 110 VAC exactly. I hope it'll last a while. That's the
supply I've been using with one of my MkIII's for a few years.
I was attempted to open the can in my bad unit, heat it up to evacuate the
tar filling and see where the short was. I decided that it'd be too messy
and may not be worth it... If you find someone who'd go through the whole
rigamarole without having to sign my house over to him, I may send mine for
rehabilitation too...

Good luck!

Meir

Subject: [The WS No19] Transformer rewinding :=(((

Yesterday I posted a question about Selenium rectifies. Thanks to all who
replied, but it gets worse.

:=(((

The fuse in the WS 19 AC Power Supply had been jumpered and the transformer
has
died. This is a potted assembly of transformers and chokes in a rectangular
steel case with soldered seams, roughly 6" in each dimension.

Does anyone know who is capable and reasonably priced to undertake a
rewinding
of such a puppy ? I suppose it's fruitless to ask if anyone has a spare
lying
around, but if you do, please contact me off-list.

Thanks,
-John
