Those Motorola microphones were engineered to be direct substitutes for
the Shure carbon microphones which Motorola previously (and concurrently)
used. Direct, plug-in, no modifications or adjustments to the equipment
necessary. Just a better sounding, longer lasting microphone. So, now
the question is: Could the component values in the circuit be tweaked
for more gain to produce full modulation at normal speaking levels?
Which brings up an associated subject. Few to none of the transmitters
under consideration had audio AGC, nevermind something as sophisticated
as a compressor. And, aircraft and tank radios were operated in a high
audio noise level environment anyway, so the operator was expected to
scream into the mike. Just take the muffler off the PE-95 or -108, fire
it up next to the operator, and you don't need more transmit audio gain.
