This radio was also known as a AN/URC-58 and are of mid 1960s vintage. The
radio is synthesized by using a spectrum comb generator. Each knob selects
a tooth from its comb generator. These teeth are mixed to produce the
output frequency. The radio requires a frequency selective voltmeter for
maintenance, possibly a spectrum analyzer can be used. The one that I had
worked fairly well, just have to be very careful that it is properly
aligned so that you are on the frequency that you think that you are on.
With the radios of today, I would use the URC-58 with caution due to the
method that it uses to generate to output frequency.
