The tuning eye could be used for dial calibration
in a shop environment, but the real reason for it
being there was for the radio operator, or who ever
did the radio pre-flight on the airplane, to measure
the dial error, and post the error on the radio and
on the remote control dials.  All the MO slugs I ever
saw had Glyptol on them.  Anyway, that's the way all
the radio people I knew used the eye back then.
