Subject: [Milsurplus] Re: ARC-1 reliablilty

I worked on ARC-1s, ARC-27s, and ARC-21 TACANS back in the early-mid '60s on
boats, 50 foot boats, for aircraft liaison ( calling winged death on the
bastards) and nav( where the fugawie). The ARC-1 was pretty tough! It talked
to P5M sea planes. The ARC-27 ( Helos and F4 Phantoms/Broncos)was 225-399.5
UHF and the TACAN worked right around a gig from 963 MC with a 63 mc IF. All
aircraft equipment was for the F8 era aircraft etc. for sure but worked.
Those ARCs were tough enough to last through carrier traps and a 'moist'
environment in non Airdale places. Collins folks..Collins...but so is the
TCS 8^)
