[Milsurplus] PRC-10 ptt delay

I recently purchased A PRC-10 at the recent Shelby NC Hamfest (complete 
w/ harness & antennaes). Ater putting together a battery pack for this 
almost perfect unit, I fired it up and tested it out. It seems to be 
receiving okay but I noticed a 1 to 2 second delay in the transmitted 
audio from the time I press the ptt button on the M-33 mic til the 
monitor receiver actually has audio output. In this duration there is 
nothing but dead carrier. Is this delay normal? I realise this set is 
not truely "instant on" as are most of the solid state rigs but this 
effect is only apparent in the transmit mode.
I have no manual for this radio and would appreciate any help in 
obtaining one and/or am willing to pay for a photocopy.  All help would 
be welcome!
