Why? That might have been an idea, but the Philippine campaign
was a US affair. I can't see them going outside the supply chain,
unless they absolutely had to. So the USA did have at least 2 radios
capable of this, if you're looking at Army radios. ( PRC-1, SSTR-1 ).
It occurred to me that the TBX would have worked pretty well in
this role - except that even with the Navy mod, it only tuned up
to 7 Mcs., and the receiver needed batteries - difficult to supply
and to store, in the islands.
