I think the "Operation Armageddon" program maybe didn't last all
that long. I don't recall the Air  Classics article mentioning date for
the abandoning of that program. If these radios were, or were "also"
intended for spy recon planes, certainly the late 50s would be the 
end of that, because Russian missile and fighter plane advances
made the use of the high altitude U-2 essential for anything but
tickling borders.  As i said before, i read some mention in an old
CQ about a Pacific sailboat dx-pedition which took along a 
transmitter, i seem to remember as an RS-6 transmitter...this was in
1957, i think, and if these were getting out that early, the program
was over.
