Hi, folks:
Anyone know where I can get a converter to get 28 VDC from my 14 VDC vehicle?
I want to install a MIL radio in my truck, but the radio runs on 28 VDC (or
24 VDC if you prefer).
I need about 5 Amps at 28 VDC.
Thanks,
Dick
There are a couple of ways to do this. 12 VDC to 110 VAC inverters are cheap
these days and so are computer surplus 110 VAC to 28 VDC power supplies. You
can go this way or... a better way IMHO. Boston Mountain Mfg in West Fork AR
72774 makes a converter called STEP-MAX 1224-500 that takes 12 VDC and
converts it to 24 VDC at 20 amps. The output is pot adj from 24-32 VDC. They sell on
Ebay for about $100. They are solid state, fan cooled and about the size of
two bricks. I think they are made for the RV industry. One nice feature is
that they can be daisy chained to supply two three four or whatever times the
rated current of a single unit.
