George,

Yes, Virginia, there really was a BC-794, with band five covereing 20-40 MC.
The Signal Corps purchased and assigned nomenclature to three Super-Pro
variants, BC-779 (far and away the most common), BC-1004 and BC-794. SCR-244 was a
BC-1004 and RA-84, whether or not it has a Signal Corps nameplate. SCR-244-D
was an R-274-B (one of the SP-600 variants).

The only BC-794 I ever had included a Signal Corps nameplate, but I wouldn't
be surprised to learn that the early ones procurred didn't. I mentioned here
earlier that the BC-779 pictured in TM 11-487 is one of the early ones with
engraved front panel and no nameplate. And as you can't make out the band
coverage in the typical photos in TM 11-227 and TM 11-487, which radio they
actually photographed is anyone's guess. With the dust covers in place, it could
have been an SP-110 for all anyone could prove to the contrary.

Hammarlund made the SP-100, 200 and 400 series in a lot of variants as to
which five bands they covered. Many of the combinations either weren't procurred
by the Signal Corps or at least were never assigned a BC- number.

If I had known that there was going to be such a gathering of the clans at
Belton, I might have tried to go up there with Lon. Sorry I missed it.
