Belton:
Well, I wish I had paid more attention to the attendees. I was there,
and wondered if I should mention that K5JV is cleaning out his Bandera
barns in preparation to sell the property, and had many pieces of surplus
there. Lots of ARC-5 stuff in all manner of condition included in two
trailer loads of stuff. He sold the 750TH to someone, by the way. He
also is trying to find homes for some BC-610s. One 610I (not his) there
found no customers at $700, and it was operable and recently on the air.
Go figure. Next swapfest, we all need to coordinate!
Manual errors:
I believe I had mentioned on here that I was engaged in sorting through a
few thousand documents relating to HFDF. I thumbed through several of
interest to me, and found errors in almost every one I looked at. One
which I discussed with Robert was page 43 in the 10 April 1944 issue of
TM11-227 which shows a photo of three gray front Super-Pros, and the text
calls out three BC-342s in the description of the SCR-237. It also
specifies "One Transmitter ANBT-3 (Navy ATC)". Is ANBT-3 some anagram of
ART-13?
Then, same book, page 45, the SCR-244 is described as a commercial
Hammarlund Super-Pro (black front in the photo), with a loose 8" speaker
balanced on top. Gives the frequency range 0.54 to 20 MHz. But, on page
116, the SCR-704 has what appears to be an almost identical photo from
the same session but without the speaker, (carefully look at the
lighting, shadow details, spacing between receiver and power supply,
reflection of ruler in chrome, etc., etc., etc.), calls it a BC-794 and
specifies a frequency range of 1.25 to 40 MHz. Super-Pro on 40 MHz?
Huh? What am I missing here? Was there such? Really?
73,
George
