Somewhere I heard Dumont was given a contract to build a few again in '42.
This because that was the only radio that saw success in rice-paddy use
with locals while Stilwell & co. were making the Burma Road

First, I don't know if Burma Rd. on thread's time slot nor did I go to
"history of Sig. Corps" 1st. So my apollogies if this is all off-target.
The '178 must be 10 years earlier than the Crosley '284 & 15 yesrs
before whoever's PRC1.

But I have one of those DuMont ensembles (BCs 186/7/8) as once did W8AU
& now does N4FS. And I can provide a 80M CW contact w. it if someone
wants.

Another thing is '178 only ran off batteries & a coffee grinder.* CW
or AM. And AM employed an amazing screen-modulation stunt for it's 865.
Last, my '178 manual copy (credit 'CAB) dated 8 days after Pearl Harbor.

* I have a GN-37.  I DON'T have the cranks, seat-assy, or cable.  Any hep
  out there?

  Then there's the MU-4 mule. In stock. As is a pair of pliers
  for the Model A that's background in one picture - worth more 'n
  a 865.
