50+ years on, there's still a fair amount of detritus out there. The gov't of
France has "Bureau of De-Mining" that collects still dangerous explosives
going all the way back to WWI. There is a yearly attrition of Bureau
field workers.
I was a couple years ago offered from some former small USSR-empire
country some radios from tanks pulled out of swamps. One set was the
UkW series from a German APC, the other a rare early Russian tank
radio. The stuff had been under water and mud for 50+ years, not salt
water, but water all the same, and it looked okay displayable but not
operable, for sure. Even the headphones were there, but as you can 
imagine, pretty bedraggled looking.
