I agree, the BC-310 is ruled out. There just weren't that
many that the wartime air fleets could ever be supplied
with that pre-war set.
But- so WHAT df did the LBG carry? I always thought it
was lost due to 180 degree ambiguity situation with the
onboard DF !  
It has been long years since i read about the LBG, but i
am now wondering: 1) did the LBG not try to raise Benghazi
once it struck them something must be wrong? 2) would
Benghazi try to call the plane, if it was overdue, or was this
not wartime practice? On the return run, radio silence was
certainly not called for. 3) how far would the LF NDB
reach from Benghazi? This was probably? a BC-191
with maybe 50 watts out??

OH- BTW, the BEST photo story on the LBG is a copy
of LIFE magazine for the month/ year of its discovery. I
well remember looking at it when i was a youngster. Most
of those photos never appeared in any book on the LBG.
