You must be thinking of some other plane, because there
was no way the LBG was flying anywhere. The back was
broken when it slid in.
The books i read, none really describe the radios status,
very unfortunately, except that the VHF ( what set? )
was pulled and installed in another Army plane, and worked.
The book says something about some of the radios being
smashed, doesn't it, where the fuselage cracked and compressed?
But, i am thinking, some of the HF gear still had to be workable.
Also, altho the navigator or radio operator could have been
more cautious, you would think maybe Benghazi airfield
would have DF capability and could tell the plane if it was coming
or going. I wonder if this was understood to be available to crews,
if they asked for a position. ( There was some Q signal for this,
wasn't there? but i cannot recall it.)
