Hi All,
I am the owner of few FRR-59s and WRR-2s, and I have been in love with this
radio since the late 70s.
So far, I have rebuilt more than ten for other National Aficionados like me.
They are not easy to fix, but when they work, they are as solid as a rock.
The last time, I aligned my WRR-2 was 1991, and I haven't touched since.
In my opinion, the most difficult module to fix is the Injection IF
Amplifier. It Z501 is tuned by using the peaking method, the receiver
develops a "bird" that will drive you NUTS. I came accross two FRR-59s with
this problem. The owner, a great guy, tried to align these radios without
the proper equipment and enough appreciation for electronics.
From time to time, I repair units or modules for others. Most of the times,
I do it for free (plus shipping). Other times, I get parts in exchange. I
am dedicated to helping others enjoy these radio.
I am planning to put on my WEB site the pictures of the last FRR-59 I
rebuild. I think it may interest many of you, since this was totally taken
apart, cleaned and rebuild.
I don't want to start a religious war, but I like these Nationals better
than my 390s. For sure, it does better than the 651S1 and the Cubic 3030.
Best Regards,
Francesco Ledda
