I think this is an excellent idea since many of us cannot possibly 
ever get to those swap meets, etc.

Perhaps the want list should include the price we are able to 
pay for the items we want so that the proxy buyer doesn't end 
up owning something he doesn't want or need.

Or perhaps there should be some sort of agreement between the 
ultimate buyer and the proxy that the item(s) will be accepted 
no matter what the final price.

But these questions can easily be worked out, I would think.

I most certainly would appreciate such a service and kindness.
