I agree...I am a hunt and peck typist...B-52 came in at about 45000 not 35000
feet so only went up less than 10000 feet. Many reports of airliners
doing this. I think that in the case of the B-52, they were very close
to maximum power just to keep airborne with such a load and got caught
by surprise when they went up so violently. Could be that autopilot
not on as this was a test crew and not combat crew which tend to fly
by the proverbial "Seat of the pants"
