[Milsurplus] Trans Oceanic MW reception

The reason i asked this question, as most of you
guessed:
Yes, it is related to the Amelia Earhart question!
The "Niku advocates" believe she crash landed
on the reef at Garnder Island/ Nikumaroro. That
around 10:00 AM Niku, she could hear KGMB
on July 2, 1937, 10:00 AM, on a WE Co. aircraft
receiver using a Bendix loop antenna very much like
the US Navy's type DU, and that she was trying
to respond to messages from KGMB. KGMB was
1320 kc/s, and either 1 kw or 10kw at most- i don't
recall, and i have packed up my FCC list.
This sounds like, along with the test of their story,
a little too much of a stretch. I thought i would pose
the question here because some of you have been
cross-ocean flyers, and many here are familiar with
the operational characteristics and capabilities of
1930s-40s radio gear.
I really appreciate any input on this question, i mean
it! Offlist if you reckon it's too far off mil radio.

But remember, i mean daylight on both Niku and
Hawaii. 10 AM Niku, little later in Hawaii.
Night dx reception on MW i already know about.
It's just long distance over sea, during day hours,
on MW, that i don't have personal experience with.
