[Milsurplus] BB-490U from Fair Radio

Hi All,

I had noticed a few (read lots) of comments on the battery charger =
w/BB-490U batteries from Fair all being bad.  I wanted to try an =
experiment with re-juvinating bad lead/acid cells, so I ordered a set.  =
My daughter carried over my package from Fair radio with the charger and =
batteries, and both of mine took a charge no problem (there goes the =
experiment).  Thinking that it was just a surface charge, I hooked up a =
couple of 50 ohm 10 watt resistors (1/4 amp at 12v and proceeded to =
discharge them.  Took a while (3 hours) for the voltage to go down to =
10.5 volts with 2 very hot resistors.  Both batteries are from Magnum =
Power Systems Ltd. in Marion NC, Date code is  01/91, contract no is =
N00140-90-D-BB32.  Are these a different batch than everyone else =
received, or did I just get lucky.
