Group,
George is correct, of course. As were Dave and Bill and several others
who've commented on this thread. If there hasn't been anything posted on some set
on this list for a long time, it doesn't necessarily mean that none of us have
any interest in the set. It just means none of us interested in the set have
had anything new to say about it, and no one new has come along with a new
question or comment. When's the last time anyone posted anything new on
SCR-245? Over a year, according to my records. Yet I could name nearly a dozen
current members including myself who have one. Same with the SCR-193. No one has
said diddly about the BC-191 in quite some time, but it will come up again,
and this is the appropriate forum.
There are some good reasons for having different lists. Greenkeys is
probably the best example I can think of. There's a fair amount of overlap in
membership between it and Milsurplus. A fair number of list members are also hams
and/or military radio collectors, but most aren't, or at least have their main
interest in the Teletype, Kleinschmidt, etc. machines. And with them, radios
fall into the same category as pickup trucks used to go and collect new finds.
A means to an end, not an end in themselves.
But I really don't see anything good to be accomplished by splitting the
AN/PPN-xx sets off to a separate list.
On the other hand, if someone tries to split off SCR-177, 188, 193, 210, 245,
284, 694, AN/TRC-2, 7, AN/GRC-9, etc., I will really object. I have some or
all of each of those sets, and no desire to subscribe to ten new groups. :-)
BTW, just to get this post back into the mainstream, I'm still looking for a
good PE-135-AX and a PE-162, PE-162-A or unmodified PE-162-B, as well as a
PE-210-(*). And several AN/TRC-2 and AN/TRC-7 components.
