Good tip. The "silver migration" is more likely to be Tin whiskers growing.
Very common in old radios and electronics from the 50s. For some reason the
Tin content was very high in the solder, and on some parts they used pure,
unalloyed Tin plating. I've seen whiskers over an inch long! Coating the
metal can help prevent growth (polyurethane, etc.). The military coated
much of their stuff to prevent it. MFP prevented more than fungus.
