Back in the early 1950s, the Texas State Guard had an AM frequency
assignment at 2726 kcs. At radio headquarters, there was a 32RA and a
2KW Collins transmitter whose model number I have forgotten. Most of the
State Guard equipment (radio and otherwise) was Texas State surplus, and
I don't doubt that the 32RA spent the early part of its life in a State
Police HF radio position somewhere. This is an application we tend to
forget in light of the present exclusive use of VHF/UHF by most law
enforcement agencies.

A related comment: There was a large variety of receivers which went
through that site, from WW2 Super Pros to HRO Sixtys and NC183Ds, an
SX-88, various vintage 51J-x, plus Motorola, Link, Doolittle and Kaar
fixed frequency dispatch receivers. There was an antenna distribution
unit so any or all could be fired up simultaneously. The receiver which
consistently out heard all the rest was the Kaar. I wish I remembered
the model number of that receiver. I do remember it was one of the few
AM receivers with a noise balanced squelch, the standard design for FM
radios. It had some other noise cancellation circuitry in the IF which I
would sure like to revisit.
