Having scanned 100's of manuals primarily for the purpose of reprinting, =

must disagree about the use of gray scale for archiving text.  There is n=
o
information content to the background clutter that you get from yellowed
original pages, nor is there any in how dark the print is.  =


Photos are another matter, of course, and the best results that I have
learned how to achieve involve scanning the page twice, once for the text=

and once for the photo.  And then cutting and pasting the photo onto the
text page.  Minimum file size with no loss of quality in the photo.  Time=

consuming, though.

because you don't loose resolution or get increased contrast. Also every
print
made is essentially as good as the original. By high res I mean 600dpi at=

grey for B&W stuff.
