John,
The ATC and ATC-1 transmitter was the COL-52286. The ATC became the
AN/ART-13 by changing (or maybe in some cases installing) the appropriate=
nameplates. The 52286 became the T-47/ART-13 and the two dynamotors
(different contractors) became the DY-11/ART-13 and DY-12/ART-13. The T-=
47
included the O-16/ART-13 oscillator or the MX-128 blanking panel. =
The AN/ART-13A came along circa 1944 I think (at least the Operator's
Manual dated September 1944 covers it, although the first Maintenance
Manual that I've seen didn't appear until 1949). The transmitter was the=
T-47A/ART-13 (yep, no "A" after the "13") which carried the O-17/ART-13A
(or MX-128). The dynamotor was the DY-17/ART-13A. =
First maintenance manual that I know of that mentions the AN/ART-13B is a=
revision to T.O. 12R2-2ART13-2 dated 30 March 1956, which seems a little
late, but... Anyway, the transmitter is the T-412/ART-13B, which carries=
the CDA-T crystal controlled oscillator in place of the O-17. Unlike the=
earlier sets, you couldn't just unplug the CDA-T and replace it with the
MX-128. Installing a CDA-T in a T-47A is not a simple task, and involves=
quite a bit of wiring and rewiring. =
The DY-17A/ART-13A came out around 53 or 54. The overhaul instructions a=
re
dated 1954.
>Does anyone know the difference between the base and B versions of the
ART-13? I
have no books on the unit at all.
