-Was this still being used, or just left in place? I cannot imagine the USAF
using either HF AM or cw at that date.

>The AN/ARR-15 does seem to be the receiver of choice to go with a
post-WWII AN/ART-13. The USN had no receiver comparable to the BC-348
in WWII. I guess they must have used their ATC and AN/ART-13 sets with
the ARB and AN/ARC-5 receivers. At least one AN/ARC-5 manual I have
 shows both of those arrangements.

I was told by Chet Wisner, who flew Atlantic patrols in a PBY WW2,
that from 1943 the RAX's were removed and replaced with BC-348.
(Yes.)
However, we know not all were changed out, because some PBY
apparently kept the RU-GO setup. Pete Peterson flew as radio
op in some of these post war, on delivery flights to the Philippines.
The A/C were being given to the Philippine AF.
Also, Jack Strayer told me he saw RAX + GO-9 setup in some
PBYs - don't recall whether this was southern CA or around Seattle-
i think he said S&R PBYs out of Seattle, this up into the 1960s
at least. When i asked why, he said the HF gear simply was not
used anymore, and it was just left in.

 >I wonder what receiver the USAF used with the O-17/ART-13 LF transmitter
channel, or the USN used with the O-16/ART-13 LF channel, if they were
using the AN/ARR-15 with the T-47/ART-13. Maybe an R-23/ARC-5, or even
an AN/ARN-6 that was being used in a communications role???

-Please consider the possiblity, which i have harped on, over and over, that
the LF/MF frequencies were NOT used for 2-way communication. I think i
have posted enuff examples to establish this pretty well - maybe i did post
them only to MRC email group ( Dennis Starks' group.) I may be so bold
as to contend the ARC-5 MF transmitters served exactly this same purpose.
(Altho the power output seems a bit on the low side for DF signals.)
