[Milsurplus] TCS Radio use during WWII

Is there any history book, manual or documentation on what specifically the 
TCS radio was used for? In trying to restore my Navy MB MZ-1 radio jeep I am 
trying to understand how it fit into the scheme of an amphibious assault in 
the Pacific. I have lots of photos and the actual TCS radio manual but that 
does not tell me who they communicated with and for what purpose?
