Bruce,
This power supply has an over voltage circuit that shorts the output, in
case of over voltage (of course!).
Try to disconnect one side of A6A302.
Power it up without any load and see if the short is gone.
If it is not, the issue is upstream.
If the short is gone, check the output voltage. If it is high, try to lower
it. If the output voltage cannot be lowered, check the pulse modulator.
If the voltage is right, troubleshoot the over voltage circuit.
Please, be careful when working with this supply. It is a dangerous
monster!
Regards, Francesco

Subject: [Milsurplus] Need help with PP-4763A
Hi All,
I recently obtained one of these massive power supplies but as luck would
have it, it does not work. Upon start up it makes a very loud growling
noise (maybe a very loud hum is better description), if you let it stay in
this condition a house fuse kicks off. It would seem that a short is
occurring somewhere, but I have not been able to determine where that is! I
have replaced 3 of the 6 diodes on the rectifier section and even went so
far as to replace the SCR, but no luck. Does anyone have experience with
this type of problem and are there any manuals out there for this beast?
I would like to get it back to a functioning status, but my power supply
knowledge is quite limited. Any help would be appreciated.
TIA
Bruce
