Robert and the group,

The article on the SCR-506 appeared in the May 1945 issue of QST - "Radio
Set SCR-506" - A Biography. The History of the U.S. Army's Highly Perfected
New Medium-Range Mobile Radio Set. by A. David Middleton, W2OEN. According
the a sidebar, Middleton was an engineer at the Signal Corps Labs from 1941
to 1943, and project engineer in charge of the work on the SCR-506.
It is an account of the set's development, and a bit of a puff piece, but
interesting nonetheless.

Does anyone have one of these puppies on the air, or in the garage? ...

73,
David, W1TDD

Dave & Group,

Interesting. The earliest SCR-506 manual that I have heard of but never
found (which is an un-numbered preliminary) is dated February 1943. And I
have here somewhere a copy of an article (may have the actual magazine) in
QST in I think 1946 on the development of the SCR-506. It has been several
years since I read it but my recollection is that the article either
implied or stated that the SCR-506 was still in development in '44. Maybe
I misread it.
