This sounds like it might be out of an early airborne nav system.  Is it
heavy - like it was filled with gears & motors?  If so, might be from B36 /
B52 or??  I worked B52s in the 70s and the thing was filled with Sperry,
IBM, Univac, etc mechanical nightmares in cans.  Basically they were all in
# 10 or #20 fruit cans, soldered shut and painted flat black.  To open em
up, you used a can opener.  Connector on the end, and the plugged into a
rack with hollow space for cooling air.
