During the war, copper was in great demand (remember, we had steel
pennies, and silver nickels) - I assume after the war, copper would have
still been in demand, so aircraft dismantlers probably sent the wiring
(and presumably connectors, which would have been easier to unplug than
cut off) one way, the radios another way in their scrap piles.
