OK, thought I'd better check the RAM against hard copy. The CRN-1 manual
dated Sept 1944 says
The equipment provides for automatic transmission of a predetermined signal
suitable for homing purposes by U.S. Army aircraft equipped with an
automatic Radio Compass SCR-269, Radio Compass AN/ARN-6 or Radio Compass
AN/ARN-7.
Frequency was preset in the range 1400 to 1750 kilocycles
