Yes. A couple I have repaired had that problem in addition to 
others. One had the slug in one of the IF cans smashed. I ground 
up what was left of the slug, mixed it with epoxy glue and stuffed in 
into a straw which was the same diameter as the original coil, then 
stuck the end of the tuning screw in there and let it harden. Then 
peeled off the straw. Worked as good as new.
