One note on the rx...If the crystal socket opens when not useing a crystal you don't receive.Took me by surprise once.

Nope. Plug an antenna into the transmitter, run a couple of wires
between the transmitter and receiver (antenna switching is in the
TX), connect the power supply, plug in a crystal and go.
I really, really like mine. I also have a hand-cranked genny for it, in
addition to the "Small Power supply" (AC).
I've worked 35 countries with it, mostly on 40 meters, and used it in
the last FD.
The only thing you have to watch out for is that because the TX
tuned circuit is always connected to the antenna, you will often
times get "suck out" i.e., received signal strength can be lower by
30 db than if you use a separate antenna for the RX.
Antenna switching in the TX is accomplished by the key and the
setup is full-QSK, if your ears can stand the loud noises from the
RX.
