When I first entered the Air Force in 1948, my boss was a former bomber radio
operator and used to tell the story about the chirp of the BC-375. On
their return
to England after a run over the continent they were supposed to use radio
silence.
Some operators used to key the 375 just right so it would sound like a rooster
crowing to let the home base they were K and on the way home. The way you did
it was to load the transmitter just as heavy as possible which would cause the
oscillator to pull when keyed. I have done it and it really did sound like a
rooster ( DIT DIT DIT DITDAAAAH DIT).
