That one is easy. They were guarding different channels, and the
receivers probably had different IF frequencies anyway. But we knew
their dispatch frequencies and IF frequencies, and vice versa. The
shortcoming was the necessity for a wide bandwidth receiver, since the
actual frequencies were iffy. With accurate frequency control on both
ends, and a super narrow detector, you'd be amazed at how far a tiny
signal can be heard. The 135 KHz bunch, and another group operating at
HF are proving that every day. But not in 1943.
