[Milsurplus] is that an oscillator I hear whining?!

Two comments on this thread.

1.  The UK (BPO) used this technique to locate entertainment receivers
which had not had their license fee paid.  LW, MW, SW, TV, FM, you name
it.  May still do so, I haven't heard lately.  Wonder how they located
crystal sets?  Or TRFs, of course.  I believe other European countries
did also, and it would be interesting to learn if this technique was used
before WW2.  I only know of afterwards.

2.  In my RCA CR-91 manual, it has a rubber stamp marking on the
schematic next to the antenna terminals which says (paraphrasing):
"WARNING:  Removal of the ground link on the low side of the input may
make oscillator radiation exceed shipboard standards".   I always assumed
this was to reduce receiver interaction on the ship, but I wonder if it
was due to this as well?  Or instead?  After all, how many AR-88 type
receivers would be on one ship?  Later SIGINT ships excepted, of course. 
But, hey, this was something that must have been discovered after the
schematics were printed, but important enough to get a rubber stamp made
and have someone wield it.
