Note they all have the male Canon socket on the front which meant
they powered/connected to the acorn-tube trf 250 mhz ZB "acft carrier finder" 
receiver.  (ZB later called ARN-1)

Have always guessed ~250mcs ZB/YG system was pre-WW2 & this adds fuel 
to that fire.

Most folks guessed these things were for homing in on Edgar Bergen - Charlie 
McCarthy broadcasts
