A few years ago, I had a corroded BC band LO coil in a can in a Kaar KE23
receiver; looked like someone dripped coffee or something into the receiver
onto the coil. Knowing full well I'd NEVER find a replacement, I bit the
bullet and very carefully, made copious notes and unwound the whole
pi-wound coil. Finding and repairing the break, I brought that tiny new
solder joint outside the pi-coil winding area so the joint wouldn't be
buried under the coil, then led the wire back into place and rewound the
coil. Every few layers of pi-winding, I'd lay on a thin layer of coil dope
and wait a few minutes for it to settle. Doing this likely means it can
never be unwound again, I'm sure. But I was able to rewind the coil and
best yet, it worked like new when reassembled; I was dang proud, I'll tell
ye :o))))) This thing had Litz wire, too.
