Bob,
I'll second George's comments about being able to rebuild the motor or
generator and add the comment that I'll be quite surprised if you can't b=
uy
new bearings for them right there in Mobile. Brushes may be a little mor=
e
difficult to find, but there the afore mentioned rebuild shop can probabl=
y
help.
Another good suggestion was to build an AC rectifier operated supply (is
the LST-325 an AC or a DC ship?) for general use. There, I would suggest=
trying to acquire another M-G set. Remove the motor, generator,
regulators, etc. and set them aside as spares. Build the rectifier suppl=
y
in their place, using the existing wiring and control circuitry (relays,
etc.). I know of several folks who have done or are doing this with TCS
dynamotor supply bases (from me).
>We have a TDE transmitter with Motor Gen power supply installed on
LST-325.
Some questions arise. What have others done after the Motor Gen finally
quits
and no longer can be repaired to keep the unit on the air? We want to
maintain the integrity of this historical unit but on the other hand want=
it to be
operational as a working WW2 radio room. All comments appreciated.
