Once the new KC-45s fully replace the KC-135s, they will be based at
only four locations, due to the size of the aircraft. As of now,
those bases will be Grand Forks AFB, ND, McConnel AFB, KS, MacDill
AFB, FL & Fairchild AFB, WA. Altus AFB, OK will handle pilot & crew
training. There are currently 530 KC-135s, but only 179 KC-45s will
be built to replace them. As the numbers drop, it's likely that the
monitoring opportunities will drop also. I'd also expect to see a
large number of AR tracks close just as the Radar Bomb Scoring Sites
did once SAC ceased to exist.
