Greetings everyone,
As of 0530 UTC, ELT triangulation search by RESCUE 338 still in progress.
All of the information below heard on the 123.8 Regina remote transceiver.
Between 0430 UTC and 0515 UTC, RESCUE 338 passed back and forth between
Winnipeg Centre (118.0?) and Winnipeg Arrivals 119.5. Altitude still
around 5000 or 6000.
0510 UTC - RESCUE 338 starting to move to edge of coverage from Winnipeg
Centre transceiver located in Winnipeg (I suspect the actual frequency is
118.0), so an alternate frequency of 124.0 (remote transceiver at Kenora,
Ont.) passed on to RESCUE 338. This puts the ELT search area east of
Winnipeg, somewhere between Winnipeg and Kenora.
0515 UTC - RESCUE 338 states that they are narrowing down the location of
the ELT, and are now requesting to go VFR, and likely a lower altitude.
Winnipeg Centre approves VFR, terminates radar services, and clears RESCUE
338 to Enroute frequencies. However, somewhere in the conversation it is
decided that RESCUE 338 will still monitor Winnipeg Centre frequencies.
0520 UTC - RESCUE 338 called by Winnipeg Centre, with relay of message
from Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC). The message from RCC is that SARSAT
is giving ELT position as N4937 W9544. RCC also passes on that there was
no joy on SELCAL to RESCUE 338 on HF. RESCUE 338 advises Winnipeg Centre
to inform RCC that the HF radio on RESCUE 338 is down.
I'm guessing that at this point the only way to pass messages to RESCUE
338 will be through Winnipeg Centre ATC.
Regards,
Rob
