Blog Opinions - DOD See Info As Security Risk?!!! Re: [MilCom] Last Chance to Download is Today

According to the blog entry below, Larry states that removal was due to DOD
official's concern that terrorists could use information in the FLIP to plan
attacks.

Well sure having all the command post & base operations frequencies readily
at hand does provide some information, that would take quite a bit of
searching to uncover. HOWEVER, has DOD really changed their OPSEC/COMSEC
behavior on the radio in lieu of potential terrorist attacks? We still hear
3 hour call in (HF/SSB) and 30 min call in (VHF/UHF) for inbound aircraft
into various bases that gives all sorts of details, pax, cargo, DV's, etc...
ALL of this information could readily be passed via encrypted email internet
traffic from the departure base. Unless DOD has some sort of secret way of
adding pax & cargo to aircraft in flight once they depart the last air base,
ALL of the information given over the air (perhaps except for maintenance
issues) should basically be known via an email and serves no operational
purpose. IF there is a need for this to be passed on the radio than it
should be via voice encryption. Actually in Iraq & Afghanistan, I would
think that even the typical Air Traffic Control radio communications should
be encrypted.

Now I've got to wonder IF this same logic is going to be applied to the FCC
license records for public safety type frequencies. This sure gives a lot
more information than the DOD information.....
