I have been able to identifiy FULL SPEED as the USS Farragut
(DDG-99). No doubt the callsign comes from Admiral Farragut's
famous rallying cry "Damn the torpedoes, Full speed ahead!"
Last night, I took some time out to review and audio file I made of
the 157.125 and 244.400 activity yesterday and revised my notes
on what I had heard. I had missed part of the activity while it was
ongoing and being able to hear all of it gave me a better picture
of what was going on:
157.125 Marine VHF Ch. 82
-PHOENIX 92 (Lear, Phoenix Air) wkg BIG ORANGE, STINGER 1,
and STINGER 2 ref remotely piloted vessel operation.
STINGERs were probably assets from BIG ORANGE (they were
directed to RTB to BIG ORANGE at one point) and were tending
"target boats" 08 and 09. BIG ORANGE apparently controlled
the target boats and they kept having rudder failures on
the boats. PHOENIX 92 also relayed traffic from WATERBOY
and FULL SPEED, who were on 244.400
244.400 unknown
-PHOENIX 92 wkg WATERBOY and FULLSPEED (USS Farragut).
FULLSPEED was apparently supposed to engage the target boats
from 157.125. WATERBOY seemed to have control over the range
status.
