camslant calling vessel Robins Nest. trying to get info on pob.
then asked wether they had been boarded or were about to be boarded.
They then asked if he had set-off his emergency 406mhz beacon, he replied
he had.
next was the kicker.. camslant asked the captain of the vessel if any shots
had been fired at them.
I was beginning to think it was a drug bust but the coast guard wouldn't be
talking to him like this.
camslant started asking for all kinds of info, like passport data for the
two persons, boat documents etc.
The data the captain was giving was not coming up to camslant's liking though.
got a position report of 01.26.4 north and 80.19.5 west with a heading of
129 degrees
unless I'm wrong this would put him off the west coast of Peru.
camslant tried to get some uscg assets up on freq but the got no answer.
Freq was quiet for a few minutes when this voice came booming in id'ing
himself as
us navy warship 49, lousy sounding audio on this xmtr.
I could hear all three stations but camslant and the navy ship had a hard
time hearing each other.
They tried 8291 khz I heard them there but they didn't hear each other again.
this when on for over an hour with a patch thru district 11 for comms.
They both tried contacting the vessel but only camslant could talk to him.
they tried to get the guy to change course
so the navy could get to him sooner but he wouldn't for some reason. Then
he said he couldn't see the vessel that was chasing him any more
He said he had bought the vessel in Ft. Lauderdale FL. but "couldn't"
remember when and was heading to Durbin South Africa.
Pirates of the Caribbean for real???
I finally had enough and shut down and hit the rack.
All I can say is the radio's the navy is using really suck, feedback,
distorted audio. I'll lend them my R2000 which I was hearing
this on so they hear the other end.
question: what is or what would be warship 49??
