[MilCom] Log Periodic in Attic vs Roof

You didn't say what freq. range your LP antenna was designed to cover
but I am going to assume it is VHF/UHF since you posted to this group.
:-) :-)

I have both receive-only as well as transmitting antennas in my attic,
and in general find that the higher frequency antennas seem to be less
affected than my HF (Amateur bands, 10, 12, 15, 17 and 20 meters) ones
are. As a general rule of thumb, you will virtually *always* get better
results if you are outside and in the clear (and the higher, the better)
but thanks to both local ordinances and restrictive covenants, this isn't
always possible for many of us.

To get your best results from an in-attic antenna, get it as high as
you can in the attic.....keep it away from "noise-makers" like some
fans, some lights and other electrical devices (or at least, as much
"away" as you can......if you are only receiving, proximity of other
metal items is probably not a big deal unless those items are large
and would actually "shadow" the whole antenna in one direction.

Your log periodic is at least somewhat directional (or should be) so
you want to keep the forward area as clear of metal obstructions and/or
electrical noise makers as possible.

Attic antennas DO work......but they are a compromise and suffer a
bit from lack of height and other factors. Your mileage may vary. :-)

Subject: [MilCom] Log Periodic in Attic vs Roof

Can anyone way in on this.

I am a little hesitant to mount my log periodic on the side of my newly
sided home.

Any suggestions, tricks etc....

What will the difference be for mounting in the attic vs mounting it
outside.

Thanks

Dennis
