The heli was a civilian copter. Both people inside were safe. They have
some explaining to do now that they were in a restricted air zone.

The new media still can't figure out who was shot on the bridge. Some say
it was Army contractors, some say it was people shooting at the Army
contractors.

Subject: [MilCom] Katrina Evacuation

A small group of Katrina evacuees ( 155 total) were flown to Amarillo
today on a Continental Airlines jet that arrived at 4:30 PM. today.
I was out and took some pictures of the arrival and triage and if
anyone is interested in seeing some pix, e-mail me.

A USAF C-5 is expected with several hundred more evacuees is set to
arrive in about an hour. Emergency services is standing by as are
about 50 buses, 10 ambulances and a small army of public safety
officials, emergency crews, military security, nurses, doctors and
federal agents (with drug dogs) plus the assorted news media. I'll
provide call signs and freqs. soon.

According to the local press Amarillo is supposed to receive about 1500
total.

Also CNN reports two tragic (if it could get any more tragic) events
happening today in the stricken zone. . First was a rescue helicopter
crash in New Orleans (casualties unknown) and the report that Army
Corps of Engineers says police killed some of its workers as they
crossed a bridge on the way to repair a canal.
