Simple - security.  They want the people out in the open
where they can be SEEN.  Sorry about the tailgate issues
but there are lots of OTHER things that could be in a 
vehicle too which are not so benign.

Interesting to note that Selfridge ANGB open house in May 2005 isn't going
to permit folks to remain in their vehicles at the show parking lot --
STRANGE!!! ... Of course the question is WHY?  Many folks attending do have
refreshments in their vehicles as well as hobbyists have radio equipment to
monitor the action.  I hope this isn't some trend that's developing!!
