I tend to lean mine agaist other things so they don't travel.  In the
car, I rubber band two together, which makes them solid and less likely
to take a dive off the drink tray.

I recently saw a website that had a wild suggestion: use the thin metal
bookends, bent slightly, as perfect holders.  You can bend them to
whatever angle you like.

I suppose you could also get something like a clipboard and put a small
strip of wood at the bottom to act as a shelf for the scanners.
